About the Story
Supposedly, only the best and brightest are selected to go to Astraeus, a distant exoplanet that is home to a research colony. No applicants are accepted; instead, the colony’s corporate sponsor, VorteX, researches and approaches their ideal candidates individually and privately.
Two of these colonists are Addison, a bar-fighting medic, and Marlow, a surgeon and ASL user. Both have their doubts about VorteX, but the general dangers of Astraeus tend to keep their days full. However, when the next batch of interstellar passengers brings with them a journalist named Lark, Addison and Marlow are forced to question the nature of their selection.
I am currently in the process of querying agents to publish this story.
“If we ever meet aliens, they ought to know this about humans: no amount of vastness, void, or vacuum will make us give up bar fights.” -Chapter 1
